Sleep Soundly And Luxuriously With
Decorative Feather
Pillows
All natural decorative feather pillows, blended with the right combination of down, and a designer cover, gives you the best of all
worlds... softness, firmness and good looks.
Feather pillows come in several different sizes. In addition to the
standard sizes of king and queen, two other sizes emerge that appear
to
be unique to the feather pillow industry, continental and boudoin.
A feather and down pillow is in itself unique; molding to the shape
of
your head. This helps cushion the pressure points, which, if not relieved,
causes restless sleep and a stiff neck.
One of the biggest factors that determines the cost of feather
pillows is
the combination and/or percentage of down and feathers that is used
in the
fill. The higher the percentage of actual down (vs. feathers), the
more
expensive the pillow. Therefore, the cheaper versions will have more
feathers and less down. Some are so cheap ("how cheap ARE they?")
you can
actually feel the quills crunch when you lay your head on them! How
could
THAT be comfortable? This appears to be a case of, "you get what
you pay
for."
The higher quality feather pillows have a double chamber design;
a high fill power outer chamber of down, and an inner chamber
combination
of feather and down. Some manufacturers even completely remove
the quills, to prevent that dreaded crunching sound (and feel).
To keep your brand new feather pillows lasting for years, and to
make them
more decorative, a nice attractive cover is needed. These pillow
covers
(which help extend the life of any pillow, not just feather pillows)
are available in cotton, silk or sateen. Preferably, your cover
should
be designed as "down proof" or "feather proof", and be easy
to maintain (machine washable and dryable). The best of these
covers tend to fall in the 200-400 thread count range.
