Sometimes a comforter provides too
much warmth. Down filled blankets, made from quality fabrics with
the right thread count and down filling can make an excellent "extra layer" on your
bed.
Down blankets were developed as an alternative to heavyweight down
comforters. What's more, they make a good extra layer on the bed all
year round because of the flexible insulating qualities of down; mainly
cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Down fill can come in a number of varieties. Eider down and European
down are some of the more popular choices. Another excellent
choice is hypoallergenic "primoloft," a man-made down alternative.
One thing to consider about any bedding product that contains down fill
(comforters, pillows or blankets) is the maintenance. In the old days,
some heavy duty cleaners were needed. Today's cleaners are kinder and
gentler. They are so scientifically advanced that the down and feathers
end up with a neutral pH level!
In addition to adding an extra layer of warmth on your bed, down
blankets can also add a classy touch to your bedroom decor. Down filled
blankets are usually made from 100% cotton, with a satin trim. Not only
do they look nice on the bed, but they make a great throw blanket to use
at nap time, or for snuggling up on the couch.
Whether you live in a colder climate, have trouble staying warm no
matter what the season, or are just plain old sick of using an
overfilled comforter to stay warm, then down filled blankets may be just right for
